I am passionate about education & knowledge

 

I am dedicated to providing evidence-based continuing education courses to sports medicine professionals, mental health professionals, administrators, and coaches. Most continuing education courses I offer are focused on athlete mental health, sport performance, and improving services that are offered to athletes. I also provide continuing education courses related to ethics and professional well-being.

These in-person and online continuing education courses are sponsored by my employer Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks, PLLC (ATAGF), and my own business, Haugen Performance Consulting, PLLC (HPC). ATAGF is approved by several organizations, including the American Psychological Association and the Board of Certification for athletic trainers, to sponsor continuing education events. Given the integral role of athletic trainers in health care, they are often the first point of contact for athletes experiencing mental health difficulties. This webinar reviews relevant literature and provides recommendations for interdisciplinary care.

Approximately one-fourth of female collegiate student-athletes and one-fifth of male collegiate student-athletes report at least subclinical eating disorder symptoms. This webinar reviews relevant athlete eating disorder literature and provides recommendations for interdisciplinary care.

Attendees will learn about factors related to burnout and how athletic trainers can effectively manage these variables in their own lives. These interactive interdisciplinary workshops help participants discuss & build action plans to address important issues in clinical practice. Dr. Haugen was a member (2017-2019) and past-president (2018-2019) of the North Dakota State Board of Psychologist Examiners (NDSBPE). She has 15+ years of experience supervising clinical psychology graduate students and providing mentorship to licensed mental health professionals seeking sport psychology specialization. She conducts supervision & mentorship utilizing an Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach. This live, interactive webinar will be held on 2 dates (same content both dates): March 8, 2024 (8:30am-11:45am CT) and April 26, 2024 (8:30am-11:45am CT). This workshop focuses on frequently encountered but rarely discussed ethical challenges and invites professionals to use strategies grounded in positive ethics. This supervision workshop focuses on well-being of trainees in CSP and MPC, emotional competence, ethical and sport ecosystem factors for supervisors/mentors to consider, and a supervision/mentorship model grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Participants will leave with practical tools to help trainees build emotional competence necessary to work within sport ecosystems.

This intermediate level workshop focuses on ethical foundations for promoting psychological flexibility, which has been shown in research to promote personal and professional well-being. Participants will engage in experiential exercises based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to illustrate learned concepts with a focus on ethical practice as licensed mental health professionals (LMHPs).

This intermediate level course expands upon our popular Ethical Clairvoyance workshop by addressing ways in which social identity and culture apply to ethical decision making. With the value of hindsight, we practice strategies assisting professionals in maintaining ethically aware practice protocols. Participants also receive a workbook to help them develop an ethics action plan.

This workshop helps supervisors learn to center trainee well-being in the supervision relationship while adhering to ethical standards. Models of supervision from two different theoretical perspectives will be discussed: Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The instructors have a combined 30+ years of supervision experience.

This intermediate level workshop focuses on ethical foundations for real conversations and boundary setting for professional well-being to help navigate psychological uncertainty. Attendees learn a model to prevent burnout and develop a self-care action plan that they can use for their well-being.

This intermediate level workshop actively engaged participants in exploring variables related to professional ethics, law, and jurisprudence. A positive model of ethical decision making was presented, and participants identified ways this model can be used for their own ethical decision making. Attendees also considered personal variables that contribute to ethical decision-making.
